The Purpose of Poetry

I have read this poem over and over and still cannot give this poem one main meaning and maybe that’s what the author wants. Maybe the poem is meant to have several meanings in such few verses. Maybe it’s meant to mean something different to everybody that reads it. Perhaps many people will try to give it one meaning but will never truly understand it. They may try to stick it in one box when in reality it is meant to be like water, fluid, reaching and effecting everything it touches. I believe that this is the beauty of writing. It effects each person in a different way and doesn’t want to be confined to just one idea. It’s free and able to reach anyone who wants it.
